Bank and account proportions in Sweden

Sweden uses a 24-character IBAN. The Swift IBAN Registry describes the 20-digit Swedish BBAN as a three-digit bank identifier, a sixteen-digit account section, and one national check digit. The complete value begins with SE and two international check digits. This is a long numeric format, and the last national check digit is part of the BBAN rather than an invoice suffix. Leading zeroes inside the sixteen-digit account section must remain in the compact digital value.

When copying a Swedish IBAN, compare each print group with the source before removing spaces. Long runs of digits make repeated zeros, omitted groups, and transposed neighbors difficult to detect by eye. A spreadsheet may also convert the value to a number and damage leading digits, so keep IBANs as text. MOD97-10 provides a whole-value consistency check after normalization, but it does not show which digit was intended or confirm that an account number copied from a domestic format was converted correctly.

The three-digit bank identifier describes a position in the national format and is not used here to resolve a current Swedish institution. BankCodeKit does not query Bankgirot, a bank directory, an account service, or a payment provider. Separate the IBAN from any BIC, OCR or invoice reference, beneficiary name, and amount. If instructions arrive through a new sender or differ from a previous invoice, confirm them independently. Passing country, length, character, and checksum rules does not establish account existence, owner identity, reachability, or payment success.
